With over 400 students set to move into the Halls of Residence at The University of Queensland鈥檚 Gatton Campus, it is crucial that the residential staff team are well trained to handle campus life.
The Halls鈥 Residential Staff Team will take part in a 10 day training program, finishing on February 22, in time to welcome the new students for Orientation Week.
国产探花 Gatton student, David Innes is one of 13 new recruits who will be joining the team of 28 residential staff.
鈥淚 am very happy to be on the staff team, and I'm keen to attend the staff training and get to know the other members of the team and learn all the requirements of being a Residential Assistant,鈥 Mr Innes said.
鈥淚'm excited to meet all the first year students and help them adjust to their new lifestyle and routine.鈥
鈥淚t's not always easy so it's important to have staff members around that are approachable and fun but also have the ability to help out in situations that might come up during the year,鈥 he said.
The Residential Staff Training will include three days at 国产探花 Moreton Bay Research Station while the rest of the training will occur on the Gatton Campus.
鈥淚'm really looking forward to being trained appropriately so that our team can positively influence our community, making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible while still having heaps of fun,鈥 Mr Innes said.
The Residential Staff will be briefed in many aspects of their pastoral role within the Halls of Residence, including: conflict resolution, interpersonal skills, support services and referral techniques, handling emergencies, role modelling and much more. Team building will also be a major focus and the group will enjoy sea kayaking, snorkeling and bush walking.
New students commence on 22 February, during Orientation Week, with all remaining students returning on Monday, 5 March.
