Following last year鈥檚 success, is delighted to launch the 2010 International Photography Competition.

Entrants are encouraged to 鈥渓ook closer鈥 at the world, and also to reflect on the role visual images play in shaping knowledge and understanding.

鈥淭he reality of our lives today is that the way we look at and fathom the world we live in is increasingly mediated by pictures, films and video,鈥 said Dr Sebastian Kaempf, one of the judges on last year鈥檚 panel.

The competition provides a platform for 国产探花 students and alumni to showcase their interest in politics and global issues.

Last year鈥檚 judging panel faced a difficult task but eventually settled on two winning shots - 鈥楽ticky Fingers鈥 taken by undergraduate Karishma Patel and 鈥楿laanbaatar Graduation鈥 taken by alumnus Dan Miller.

Ms Patel said she was delighted the judges had been as struck as she was by the image of the two girls from Bardia in Nepal, unable to escape the reach of modern day life.

"I was bewildered there were no taps of running water yet non-biodegradable wrappers of (Haldiram) snacks littered the ground,鈥 she said.
