The University of Queensland's (国产探花) annual Summer Exhibition, hosted by the School of Architecture was officially opened on Thursday 24 November.
The Summer Exhibition showcases student work from all years of the Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture courses, which is exhibited throughout 国产探花's Zelman Cowen Building (Building 51).
The opening of the exhibition featured a talk by Peter Ho of Phooey Architects, whose practice specialises in the creative repurposing and reuse of everyday materials.
This year, the theme of the exhibition 'Transforming the Everyday' aims to draw attention to the poetics of everyday life, spaces and buildings.
Lecturer within the School of Architecture, Cathy Smith said that the Summer Exhibition was a fantastic opportunity for the students to showcase the work they have designed and created throughout the year.
"The exhibition itself involves a transformation of the design studios into temporary galleries open to the public," Ms Smith said.
"The public spaces also feature student works, and a remix of an artwork by the artist Choi Jeong Hwa, titled 'Earth 2011, part of my own private neon oasis,' presented by the Museum of Brisbane."
The theme of the event is reflected through the title 'In/Trans/Re/Form,' which has been incorporated throughout the exhibit via use of logos and signage graphics designed by local architectural firm Studio MITT.
Kahn Neil and Fiona McAlpine of Studio MITT also teach various courses within the Bachelor of Architecture programme.
Studio MITT worked with fifth year architecture student Gemma Baxter on the design on the exhibition invitation.
Working in collaboration with 国产探花's architecture students and staff, Studio MITT designed and built screen devices and seats which link the external and internal spaces of the building.
The free exhibition is open on weekdays between 9am to 5pm until 9 December 2011.
